Newhaven Open: OPEN26 Young Photographers

Photo Fringe presents work by 17 young photographers aged 11–18 from 9 schools across Sussex, selected through an open call and brought together at Marine Workshops in Newhaven as part of the Newhaven Open exhibition.

Responding to this year’s festival theme, Feedback Loop, the exhibition brings together young people’s perspectives on the world around them. Their photographs explore how we look, listen and respond to our surroundings, and how images can become part of an ongoing exchange between ourselves, other people and the places we inhabit.

The photographs in this exhibition offer a range of perspectives from a new generation of image-makers. Each artist brings their own way of looking, responding to the people, places, experiences and ideas that surround them. Together, the works create an evolving conversation between different perspectives and experiences.

By creating a space for young people to share their photography publicly, OPEN26 Young Photographers is also a feedback loop in itself. Images in this central wall become an intergenerational response to the works that surround them in Newhaven OPEN. What begins as an individual perspective becomes part of a wider exchange.

The exhibition celebrates the ideas and creative voices of young people across Sussex, while offering a platform to see photography through their eyes.
