On the Road
Lettice Lee
This exhibition invites viewers to critically examine the ethical responsibilities inherent in photographic spectatorship. The work is not concerned with studying individuals, but with representing wider social and political issues through representation and political awareness.
Failing to acknowledge the relationship between spectator and subject risks reproducing unequal power structures and reducing subjects to stereotypes, symbols or spectacles, rather than recognising their agency, individuality and complexity.

I am a part-time portrait and urban landscape photographer. My current practice focuses on the ways in which people are labelled and positioned as the ‘Other’. My current body of work, On the Road, explores the ethical responsibilities inherent in photographic representation and spectatorship.
