MULTIPLE EXPOSURES
Mia Carey / James Eckersley / Richard Gaskill / Rob Macdonald / Ruby Morgan
MULTIPLE EXPOSURES is a group exhibition of work by five photographers who are colleagues in the Photography department of Varndean Sixth Form College. Contrasting projects showcase diverse techniques and thematic interests. Mia Carey's images focus on tactile details as she explores foreign environments, James Eckersley's portraits capture fascinating and diverse characters, Richard Gaskill’s landscapes explore personal nostalgia, Rob Macdonald’s abstract photograms explore the impact of tourism on cities and Ruby Morgan's work focuses on beauty in chaos in the nature around Brighton.

CITY OF GHOSTS
Rob Macdonald is a Brighton based photographer and educator. This Summer he exhibited CITY OF GHOSTS in Buenos Aires, Argentina as part of a 3 week residency at FotoCreativaBA. He has exhibited internationally in the USA, Spain and Italy as well as in Edinburgh, London and locally in Brighton where this is Rob’s 10th Brighton Photo Fringe. Recent experimental darkroom work explores the physical and psychological layers of the city, challenging linear readings of place and time, opening up ambiguous visual spaces to question the impact of tourism and gentrification on local identity.

Nothing to Get Hung About
I am a social documentary photographer and facilitator driven by photography’s capacity for self-expression, storytelling, and collaboration. Alongside participatory projects addressing power dynamics between photographer and subject, my personal work explores memory, place, and identity. Returning to my teenage fishing spots along Derby’s waterways, my series Nothing to Get Hung About examines how familiar environments act as feedback loops for nostalgia and wellbeing, reflecting how the places of our past continually shape how we feel today.
Mia Carey
Out of place
Mia Carey is a Brighton born and bred photographer, who now is an educator at the very institution which awoke her passion for image making. In the moments that she has a minute spare, she can be found chasing shadows with her 35mm.
James Eckersley
James Eckersley is an award-winning photographer working in editorial portraits, album covers and unit stills. A number of his portraits are held in the permanent collections of The Royal Academy of Arts, The British Film Institute, The Royal Collection and The National Portrait Gallery.
Perhaps his most defining work is contained in his book ‘The Last Few’, a collection of fascinating biographies and evocative portraits of pilots from The Battle of Britain. This project is included in The Royal Collection and in The Victoria and Albert Museum's National Art Library.
Ruby Morgan
Battered by the Wind
I am a multidisciplinary artist from Brighton interested in the healing capacity of Art. Since receiving a first in my BA Fine Art Degree at Kingston in 2025, I have been working as a photography technician, selling commissions and creating Art to clear my mind. My practice for the past four years has been about healing through art, using my expressive painting as a journal, sculpture to create meditative immersive experiences and photography as a way to document and decompress. I hope to continue to use art and creativity to heal and inspire myself and others.
