Newhaven Open: Alison Stolwood

River Ouse and Catchment, Sussex

River Ouse and Catchment, Sussex

A work in progress, I am photographing landscapes, details and images of people along the River Ouse and Catchment area, with a focus on exploring its different habitats, how it is used for recreation, being conserved, monitored, and its history.

I am interested in ecology and the conservation work people are doing to restore the river back to a more natural state that will benefit wildlife and people, making it less prone to flooding, improving water quality, and increasing the diversity of species.

I am accessing parts of the river along the Ouse Valley Way footpath, a 67km walk which runs from Lower Beeding in West Sussex to Newhaven and Seaford Bay in East Sussex.

Artist

Alison Stolwood

Alison Stolwood works with photography and moving image, exploring themes of nature, conservation, ecology and habitats. She is interested in how art, technology and observation can deepen understanding of the environment, and how photography and video can be used to observe and record nature, capturing moments in time and details that may not always be visible. Her images can function as records, references, tools for study and memory aids. Stolwood explores how environments change over time, how they are conserved, and the relationships between people and the natural world.
