Please note this event has been postponed due to the weather warnings for Sun 25 Oct. Please check back soon for the new event date

Led by Simon Sandys

For this workshop we will be exploring the world of analogue photography without the toxic chemistry. Unlocking the power of plants we will make paper negatives using large format cameras, shooting portraits and still life on Brighton beach.

You will learn the science behind the magic of plant based developing using sustainable and environmentally sound methods. The sustainable darkroom is a method and ethos of developing photographic film or paper using plant based, non toxic and biodegradable materials. It can be carried out at home using easily available ingredients and plants which can be foraged yourself.

If you are curious about getting back into analogue photography and how to move in a more sustainable direction this workshop is for you.

Simon Sandys is a photographer, educator and artist currently researching and exploring sustainable darkroom, wet plate collodion, alternative and experimental analogue photographic practices. With over 25 years experience teaching across higher education, festivals and independent workshops, Simon has expertise of a wide range of photographic techniques: camerawork, lighting, darkroom and large scale digital printing. He is currently running a community darkroom and workshop space in Brighton.
