OPEN ECO: Britta Kohl-Boas, Overshoot (2026)

In 2015, a limit was set for global warming: 1.5 degrees Celsius. ‘Overshoot’ refers to exceeding this limit. Isn’t the behaviour of tourists who take souvenir photos in front of broken-off ice floes, rather than engaging with the melting of a glacier, also a form of overshoot? These photos are unlikely to make any difference to the climate crisis…

I’m a freelance photographer based in Hamburg, Germany. During my academic year 2023/2024 at the Hamburger Werkstattfotografie under the direction of Michael Grieve, I  started my ongoing project The Flood which traces the emotional and historical residues of the Great Hamburg Flood of 1962. This work continues the exploration I began in my earlier series Haymat Wilhelmsburg created in the 2021/2022 Masterclass with Andreas Herzau. Starting April 2026 I’m accepted for a student year at the Ostkreuzschule für Fotografie with Peter Bialobrzeski. Together with Oliver Jockers my photographic work Der Grüne Ring unter Druck is shortlisted for the Georg Koppmann Prize 2026. My photographs have been recognized in several competitions, printed in magazines and exhibited internationally.
