Newhaven Open – Gwen Sion, Atlantis

Gwen Sion is an experimental composer, music producer and multidisciplinary artist working across sound, sculpture, DIY electronics, video and installation. Her practice explores the relationships between sound, landscape, nature, technology, mythology and ritual, often using field recordings, hydro-recordings, electronic manipulation and handmade instruments created from found and natural materials.

Sion is particularly interested in translating landscapes into musical forms, treating environments as scores through which she explores the cultural, ecological and political significance of place. Her work frequently brings together experimental music, moving image and site-specific research, creating immersive experiences that connect sound with environmental and social histories.

Her projects have been presented and commissioned widely across the UK and internationally, with support from organisations including Arts Council Wales, Arts Council England, Sound and Music, PRS Foundation, Opera North and the Wales Millennium Centre. Her multidisciplinary environmental project HS2Ghostlands received the LVMH Maison/0 This Earth Award, while more recent work has explored coastal erosion, rising sea levels, landscape and environmental data through sound and audiovisual installation.
