Collectives Hub: Elephant
Elephant brings together four photographers whose practices share a belief that photography can shift not only how we see the world, but how we remember it. The work sits deliberately between fact and fiction, real and staged, giving you enough to look but not enough to decide. That refusal opens the door to humour, absurdity, poetry, and playfulness as a way of countering a heavy world. Underneath that surface aesthetic, the work is selective, constructed, closer to interpretation than record, inviting a multitude of possible narratives.
Future Histories asks how the present becomes the history that follows. Elephant’s answer is that the record was never neutral to begin with. Four photographers, working independently, arrive at the same instinct: not to document a moment, but to unsettle what documenting even means. We are already shaping what gets carried forward, and choosing, deliberately, not to make that easy.
Elephant is a collective of four photographers, Hugh Fox, Ting Cheng, Emma Collins and Luisa De la Concha Montes, exhibiting together for the first time. Individually, the four have exhibited widely. Hugh Fox has shown at Phoenix Art Space, the Old Royal Naval College and the Sony World Photography Awards at Somerset House. Ting Cheng has exhibited at Fabrica Gallery, Saatchi Gallery, Zen Foto Gallery Tokyo and the Taiwan Biennial. Emma Collins has shown at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Four Corners Gallery, Fabrica Gallery, and Les Rencontres d’Arles. Luisa De la Concha Montes works across photography and poetry, with writing shown at the National Poetry Library and published in multiple publications, including Shado Magazine; her project Activists of Brighton was exhibited at SEAS Brighton for Photo Fringe 2022. Bringing these four practices into dialogue for the first time, Elephant tests what happens when distinct ways of looking share a room.
