Photo Fringe 2024: Common Ground

During October and November 2024, the eleventh edition of our biennial, open-platform photography festival filled Brighton and beyond with over one hundred exhibitions and events celebrating photography and collaboration.

Alongside exhibitions in galleries, cafés and pop-ups in our home city, the festival reached along the south coast from Newhaven to, for the first time, Portsmouth.

The theme for Photo Fringe 2024 was Common Ground

Our theme was inspired by acts of reciprocity between generations of women farming together in Haringey, photographed by Arpita Shah for our recent We Feed The UK co-commission with The Gaia Foundation.

Finding common ground is a starting point for positive change. Like photography, common ground can bridge divides, challenge stereotypes and create space for collaboration and connection.

We aimed for the festival to disrupt traditional hierarchies and encourage a mutually beneficial exchange of perspectives, skills and ideas.
