No One Sleeps

"No One Sleeps” explores the strange and fleeting feelings that emerge after dark in quaint urban landscapes.

The work is drawn from observations made in the hours after daylight fades, when familiar English neighbourhoods begin to take on a different character. There is a particular intimacy in wandering through these places while feeling slightly removed from them, looking in from outside at warm-lit windows, private lives and moments that can only be imagined.

The night is quiet enough to hear my own thoughts. Sometimes, I wish it weren't.

For this online exhibition, the photographs are reimagined as a series of visual-audio pieces. Imagined soundscapes become part of the psychological experience of life at night. Rather than recreating the literal ambience of each location, the sound explores the ambient world inside my head: fragments of tones, rhythms, textures and noise that reflect how the night feels rather than simply how it sounds.

The sound does not always obey the image. It may reinforce what is seen, contradict it, or gradually lead the viewer somewhere else. As the exhibition unfolds, the boundary between the night outside and the one inside my head becomes increasingly uncertain.

“No One Sleeps” is an invitation to linger in these overlooked hours, when the world grows quieter and perception begins to shift, allowing the imagination to become louder.
