Three Frames

Brighton and Hove Recovery Service Photography Project

Three Frames is a photography exhibition of work created by people who use the Brighton and Hove Recovery Service.
Object. Person. Place.
Over the course of a month, eight people who use Brighton and Hove Recovery Service used cameras to explore each of these three prompts. Many of the participants were new to photography and were taught both technical and storytelling skills over a series of workshops.
The result is a series of triptychs, each telling a story. The themes are as diverse as a woman seeing the world from the perspective of a regal cat to the act of finding safety in community and supported accommodation.

Artists

Juniper McBurnie

Finding Safety

Juniper chose to explore safety in her work. Covering both the sense of belonging at events like Dyke Pride and the support offered by living at the YMCA, her work explores community and the sense of home.

GC

The Emperor

Caesar is a cat. But, as his name implies – he is also an emperor, lord of all he surveys. His owner, the photographer, G.C., corrects anyone who claims she takes him for a walk – it is the cat that takes her for a walk.
G.C. uses the camera to see the world from Caesar’s perspective – the bars that prevent him from playing with dogs on the Level, or the places that he likes to visit and sit, safe in the knowledge that all of Brighton is his, and his alone.

Cam Fulker

The Beauty in Brighton

Cam set out to use his camera to find the beauty in Brighton, his hometown.
Cam waited until dusk to take these photos, which show the city bathed in evening light. Taken at the tail end of one of the hottest summer on records, they feature Cam’s friends, as well as Brighton’s parks.

Michael Nye

My Whitehawk

Michael trained his camera on Whitehawk a part of Brighton that sits in a valley, overlooked by the racecourse.
People have lived here for over 5500 years and Michael’s images show the buildings that make up the community, including a church that was rebuilt after it was bombed during WW2.
