Photo Fringe 2024: Common Ground

Our biennial, open-platform photography festival returns with launch events from Friday 4 October 2024, filling Brighton and beyond with exhibitions and events celebrating photography and collaboration.

Exhibitors can choose to produce an in-venue exhibition or online only, but all shows will feature on our festival website.

Alongside exhibitions in galleries, cafés and pop-ups in our home city, the festival will also reach right along the south coast from Newhaven to, this year for the first time, Portsmouth.

Exhibitor registration will open very soon. There's still time to organise your own. Photo Fringe is open to all and everyone's welcome.

This eleventh edition is going to be a busy one! We've been blown away by how many people want to show work this year and we already know some in-venue exhibitions will start before and some after our customary October dates.

We select a theme for each festival we produce and those exhibitors who choose to do so are free to respond to the theme however they wish.

The theme for Photo Fringe 2024 is Common Ground

Finding common ground is a starting point for positive change. Like photography, common ground can bridge divides, challenge stereotypes and create space for collaboration and connection.

We want this year's festival to disrupt traditional hierarchies and encourage a mutually beneficial exchange of perspectives, skills and ideas.

Our theme was inspired by acts of reciprocity between generations of women farming together in Haringey, photographed by Arpita Shah for our recent We Feed The UK co-commission with The Gaia Foundation.

We hope our theme will resonate with exhibitors and audiences, but it can be responded to in any way you like, or indeed you may choose to show work that's unrelated to it.
