Join us for our regular meet up to catch up on the latest Photo Fringe news and to hear a talk by Brighton-based artist Martin Seeds. 

Martin completed his MA Photography at the University of Brighton in 2016 and has exhibited in Brighton Photo Fringe a number of times, most notably in 2016 at the Regency Town House. 

His practice is centered around his relationship with his Northern Irish homeland which he left in 1986. Through his practice, he engages with the conflicting experiences of Northern Irish identity, politics, culture and nationality.

His work has been part of group shows including: 'Fresh Faced Wild Eyed' at The Photographers Gallery London; East London Photo Festival; Brighton Photo Fringe; Tokyo Institute of Photography - Photo Book Show; ByrdCliffe AIR programme New York and Cork Photo Festival. He has been featured in two Photoworks showcases and in issue 10 of Yet Magazine.

In 2017 Seeds was awarded the Magnum Graduate Award for his recent project 'Assembly'. This body of work is set in the Stormont Estate, the home of the Northern Ireland Assembly. The work uses the power of photography to generate allegory - letting the plants, trees and foliage deliver a message from the grounds surrounding the Northern Ireland parliament building about the struggles embedded in a fragile political landscape. 

Martin will talk about this highly relevant body of work; his experience of showing in the Photo Fringe and the career opportunities that have come from that; his new studio gallery Niagra Falls and the innovative use of smartphones in his work.
